This ride represents my small way of saying ‘thank you’ to the person who saved my life; my donor, my hero
from Hamelin

Bpositive founder and leukaemia survivor Jonjo Rooney is preparing to push himself to the limit by cycling 500 miles from Birmingham to Hamelin in North Germany to meet his bone marrow donor, and to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, Anthony Nolan and Bpositive - three blood cancer charities very close to his heart.

Jonjo, will begin his ‘Hero of Hamelin’ cycling challenge on 6 September 2014 from the place where he underwent his bone marrow transplant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and is aiming to complete the epic journey within seven days. He will be joined by five other cyclists, including  Bpositive co-founder and Secretary John Reeve, who lost his son Tim to Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2005. Since being in remission, Jonjo has completed various events, including bikeathons and marathons, but he expects this particular cycle ride will represent his greatest challenge:

“This idea has been in my mind for a few years now, so to see it turned into a reality is both nerve-racking and exciting. This ride represents my small way of saying ‘thank you’ to the person who saved my life; my donor, my hero from Hamelin.  No amount of miles cycled could ever match what he has done for me - but I know I had to do something."
